than just birth"
The Baby Catchers Ball Long Island Midwives, Inc. celebrated National Nurse Midwifery Week Friday, October 3, 2003 Huntington Hilton,
Melville, NY. Proceeds went to the Shirley Okrent Scholarship Fund.
Long Island Midwives, held it's 2nd annual "Miles for Mom's" walkathon, on
a brisk Oct.19th, at the Sunken Meadow State Park, in Kings Park. With the
help of many midwives and friends of midwives we raised almost $4000 to
support the Postpartum Resource Center of NY. After a brisk walk on the
boardwalk led by Dorothea Lang, New York's first licensed Midwife and Pam Koch,
New York's 1000th licensed midwife, we adjourned to the picnic area for food and
fun around a blazing log fire. It was a great time and thanks to everyone's
efforts- a great success.
